[metal of choice |[Pandora Radio] Walls of Babylon by Symphony X]

Heya, heya first post and all that. I'm 22y/o gay guy living in some tiny-nowhere county in Maryland, with tastes in music that would likely indicate I had been born in Norway. Which is not the case. But anyway.

My all-time favorite band is Symphony X, with close seconds of Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, and newcomers Serentiy. Other bands I tend to like are too numerous to mention, but I have to bring up Steel Attack, Rhapsody of Fire, Lanfear, Pagan's Mind, Magellan, Saxon, Jag Panzer, Vanden Plas, Dreamtale, Falconer, Elvenking, Mechinae Supremacy, Edguy, Masterplan (Jorn Lande-era), Avantasia, Ayreon, and anything else with keyboards and electric guitars.

Pretty much as long as it's metal, I like it.  And, for all of us American metal gays, we have this wonderful tool given to us by the gods of metal (no, not Rob Halford...)  What is this tool you ask?  I am SO psyched to tell you!

Pandora Radio, for those of you who have not been exposed to it, is found at www.pandora.com, and it might become your new best friend!   Very exciting.

Unfortunately, my boyfriend doesn't share my tastes in music... he'd be happier listening to music from the 1920's.  Which has merit in it's own right, but doesn't have nearly enough dragons, magic, or keytar solos to keep me interested.

Also, I dabble in keyboardery, so if anyone knows and good resources to go to to actually learn how to *play* this kind of stuff, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, and nice to meet you all!

I'm glad I found this place. After queermetal.net went down, I thought that was it.

Intro eh?

I'm a 23 year old bi male living in Virginia. I love many genres of metal and hard music. Small list: The Acacia Strain, Slayer, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, Heaven Shall Burn, Machine Head, Cattle Decapitation, The Red Chord, Mastodon, 3 Inches of Blood, Satyricon, Most Precious Blood, and on and on and on. I'm also into trance, electronica, and a few other non metal groups like Mindless Self Indulgence.

Berrie, Trivium has another song on The Crusade relevant to the community. It's called "And Sadness Will Sear", it's about Matt Sheperd's murder. Trivium seem to be pretty queer friendly and I tend to like them.

This place hasn't been updated in forever so I thought I'd reintroduce myself, especially because I can actually talk with some authority about a bit of metal now.

Well, I'm Barrie, gay FTM, blah blah.

My favorite metal bands are Megadeth, Dream Theater, and Kamelot. I also really like Dokken, Queensryche, and Maiden. I'm slowly getting into Helloween and Blind Guardian. For about another week I am working for a metal radio station -- WSOU, if any of you are familiar.

Finally, I'm not a big Trivium fan, but they have this song called "Ignition" that has some pretty good lyrics relevant to the community. listen here

I  have been a metalhead since forever. The first bands i ever listened to were iron maiden , metallica,
Bathory and so on. I  love all genres of metal but i mainly listen to doom metal, Ambience Metal,
Symphonic metal, black metal and power metal. If i were to list out all my fav bands it would take me
an eternity..lol but some of my fav bands include, Emperor,my dying bride, anorexia nervosa,
deicide,Bathory,Behemoth, into eternity, after forever, tristania and many many more.

I am absolutely elated that i found this community because i think metalheads in the LGBT
Community are extremely rare and i bloody hate it when metalheads express homophobia
or associate being gay with negativity or use homophobic slurs like when they say something is
soo gay ..i bloody hate that expression or when they use the F_ _ word . Im looking for more
gay metalhead friends so feel free to add me either on here or on myspace.

It's Time to Intro Like Track 1 on a Cradle of Filth CD [Jul. 14th, 2006|10:23 pm]
GLBTQ Metal Fans
(that is to say, a little too long and less-than-satisfying on its own)

Hi :) My name's Jamie, and I'm a 24-year-old girl (born male) living in Cleveland, Ohio. My brother got me into metal when we were growing up, and despite being kinda wary/scared of it at first (I couldn't look directly at Iron Maiden album covers for the life of me), I've come to love it.

I usually stick to more melodic bands, but when I'm right pissed I'll put on some old Meshuggah or Dillinger or something just as crazy... what a good release! Metal can be therapy :D

One of my favorite bands evar is Amorphis, through all their incarnations (yes, even Am Universum). If you haven't heard their newest CD, Eclipse, you need to. One part folk metal, one part rock, one part psychadelic... it's like a mix of their most powerful eras, with positive influences from the less-than-powerful ones, and their new singer is amazing. It's become one of my most listened-to CDs. It's pretty much universally hailed as their return to form. If you'd given up on them, learn to forgive. You won't regret it.

Aside from pimping that band whenever I get a chance, I also write my own music too. (Those are lo-fi clips of demo recordings, by the way) I play a 7-string Ibanez (she's my "girl with a little something extra"), and although I've sorta moved away from straight metal (haha get it?), I still get ideas for it or come close to it every now and then within other genres.

Anyways, that's me :)

Promoting the community. [Feb. 25th, 2006|11:27 am]
GLBTQ Metal Fans

[state of mind |busy]

Because we appear to be a lonely bunch so far, I think it's time to start promoting the community. However, I'm not quite sure where to do so. GLBTQ communities? Metal communities? Any ideas? I promoted us to community_promo back when I first founded this community, but it didn't get us many members...

I made a banner for the community (it's on the info page) and a new community icon - feel free to use these anywhere to promote queermetal. If you want to donate any other banners or icons I would bow down at your internet feet.

[metal of choice |Megadeth - Youthanasia]

Hey guys,

What a cool community! I'm Barrie, a 17 (though almost 18) year old gay FTM. I've recently rediscovered my taste for metal, and have become somewhat addicted to Megadeth. I'm not going to claim to be any kind of big metal and/or Megadeth fan, I've just been listening to them and also some other stuff people have recommended to me (Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Manowar, Queensrÿche). I didn't think there'd be too many other gay guys with taste like this, so I thought it'd be cool to join this comm!

Anywho, nice to meet you all.
